In the first game of the 2014 USCAA Softball National Championship, #10 Penn College defeated #7 NHTI 6-2. The Lady Wildcats did the majority of their damage in the third inning, benefiting from miscues defenively from the Lady Lynx and RBI singles from Racheal Shaeffer, Macie Lucas, Nicole Lofurno, and Samatha Hill to score five runs.
Penn College's Arika Stopper pitched a complete game, giving up just two runs and tallying eight strikeouts. Alexandra Brennan, Shaeffer, and Lucas recorded two hits apiece, and Stopper added two RBI's in the Wildcats' winning effort. Kasie Tucker added two hits and a home run to lead NHTI. Tori Lemay pitched all seven innings for the Lady Lynx, giving up six runs (three earned), striking out seven, and adding an RBI single at the plate.
Penn College will advance in the winner's bracket to face #2 Lindenwood University-Belleville at 8:00 PM. NHTI will move to the loser's bracket where they'll face either #3 Ave Maria University or #6 Penn State Hazleton at 6:00 PM on the Pony field.
